French Fried: The Culinary Capers of an American in Paris, by Harriet Welty Rochefort, 2001. Harriet continues her attempts to demystify the French with French Fried, the saucy-sometimes spicy - and often hilarious tale of one American woman's 30-year foray into the byzantine world of French cuisine. And when it comes to food, Rochefort's experiences are anything but dull or traditional. When she first arrives in France, she dines on onion soup with her concierge. When she finally gets a decent apartment with a kitchen it turns out that there's both a shower - and a cop - in it.

Just A Bit of History
South of Paris (14 kilometres) near the town of Orly is Orly Airport. It has
two terminals refered to as Orly-Sud (Orly South) and Orly-Ouest (Orly West).
Built in 1932 to suplant Le Bourget (1919) as the main airport of Paris,
Orly is now overshadowed by Roissy-Charles de Gaulle
for international flight, but remains the principal Paris airport for regional/domestic flights within France.
How to get to and from Orly
The Airport Shuttle:
Either shared, or
personal service to anywhere in Paris. Arrange your pickup in advance - the
Airport Shuttle
will be waiting for you when you arrive.
And waiting to bring you back to the airport when you depart at the end of your stay. The Airport Shuttle
operates from all Paris airports, including Roissy-CDG and Orly.
Air France Bus ticket from the 1990s. Its a bit more expensive nowadays and is in euros.
Air France Bus
Curbside pickup at the terminal; pay at the door. These busses leave every 15-20 minutes during the hours 5h40 - 23h and
deposits passengers at Porte Maillot, Etoile/Place Charles de Gaulle, or Gare Montparnasse.
Travel time of about 25 minutes if traffic is clear; an hour or more during rush hours.
There is a cost. There is also a direct bus between Orly and Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airports.
Orlybus:
Service to and from Denfert-Rochereau Métro/RER stop
(bus is next to the RER stop).
Departs every 15 minutes; expect about 45 minutes travel time though it will depend on traffic.
There is an associated cost.
JetBus:
Bus service to Villejuif Louis Aragon
Métro stop. Regular departures and similar
travel times to those of Orlybus. There is an associated cost.
OrlyVal:
Frequent connection to Antony RER stop.
This conductorless train is one of the most expensive ways into Paris from Orly, but it does run when other transport is idled due to strikes.
Taxi:
Of course there is also the taxi possibility. Taxi stands are just outside of all terminals. Taxi is among the most expensive
ways into town.
