Very pleasant atmosphere, and hosts.
Charming and helpful, clean and spacious
room. An all around great experience.
Have recommended to many friends who
share the same experience as I.
Family-run. Solicitous. Decent. Pleasant. A fine hotel of its type. Very well-located.
I enjoyed my stay in your hotel. The management was very friendly to us during our stay. I was there in the end of November.
I can only echo the other comments. My wife and
I found the hosts without equal for friendliness in
a city known for the coldness of its citizens. The location
is excellent with a Metro stop about 1 minute away and about
a 10 minute walk to Notre Dame. One of the most comfortable
and friendly hotels I have ever stayed in. Thanks Blaise for a great experience.
The rooms are clean and comfortable and the service is very nice. The breakfast is a great bargain. I've stayed there frequently and it is one of my favorites.
An extremely friendly, quiet and clean hotel situated close to the centre of Paris thereby making it the ideal location to explore this wonderful city. The hotel offers excellent value for money and the Bouchand family are most kind.
We would not stop anywhere else.
Charming hotel, value for money, helpful staff, conveniently located. Will stay there again.
In November 1996 I stayed at this charming hotel. The continental breakfast served (consisting of coffee, croissant, butter and jams) was just the right meal to begin the day. Blaise Bouchand, the hotel manager speaks English fluently and is extremely accommodating, however his parents speak no English and cannot assist you if Blaise is unavailable (so beware you one-language yankees). The hotel price is a budget value, but you had better have strong legs and a stable heart to reach the rooms via steep, and seemingly never ending stairs. The rooms are simple, clean, but no TV's (except the 1 TV in breakfast room). The location is well situated, near Metro: St. Paul. Lots of bargain shops, grocery store, restaurants and a post office located nearby.
The best small hotel, with the finest service. Formerly with the Bouchand family, now with a new owner, I hope will be as fine as before. Highly recommended.
Actually, I know this hotel very well. It's quite charming and the owners are very nice people. You can ask a lot of things concerning Paris to those people, they'll always answer to you with a great precision and a big smile. The services offered by The Castex Hotel, are simple, nice, and from a good level. You can Ask Vasco (one of the employees) anything, he'll do a lot of things for you.
If you're going to Paris, Choose the Castex hotel, and Say hi to Vasco for me :)
The Castex is a terrific value--very convenient location in a great area, with a friendly staff and very modest prices. Rooms may be spartan and utterly unromantic but mattresses are comfortable and the bathroom sparkles. My only complaint is that people returning late at night tend to talk and laugh VERY loudly while ascending the stairs. But would I stay there again? Oh, yes.
Excellent value for the money. Friends staying in other hotels with higher room rates were amazed atthe quality of our accomodations. Front desk stsaff uniformly pleasant and not at all impatient when we spoke French to them
I have spent over a year in Europe from a weekend trip to Venice to a 4-month stay in Spain. The Hotel Castex had the firmest, easiest-sleeping bed I have had to date. I was there with 3 nieces and nephews, my sister and my Mom. The two rooms used to accommodate us were VERY spacious. My nephews, however, did produce a big puddle on the bathroom floor when they took their showers the first time because there was no floor drain. GREAT access to subway and a small grocery to get that much needed, thirst quenching bottle of water as you're going "home" at the end of a long touring day.
A very clean small hotel. Very enjoyable. Family owners are delightful. Monsieur Castex is a real gentleman. Wonderful location at the place de bastille. Great continental breakfast. right across the street from the Standing Cars! near cutest cafe!
A superb hoteland location. Friendly and courteous family hosts.Blaise and his parents always make you welcome. We have returned here many times and have always received the same excellent service. Well recommended. We look forward to our next visit.
My wife, 2 sons and I stayed at the Castex for several nights late May of this year. What a pleasant experience. Extremely friendly and helpful hosts. Rooms spotlessly clean. Great exercise using the steps! Would definitely stay there again. A terrific value. I hope the family doesn`t sell out to a chain, large corporate interest, etc.!
About five years ago, a friend recommended Castex Hotel and it took me awhile to actually get there. The biggest selling point for him was its proximity to the Place des Vosges, although it's also centrally located for the Marais, the Opera Bastille and lovely riverside walks along the Seine.
The only reservation I have is the room I stayed in the first night, which was the single with bath just off the courtyard. The only window in the room is located at one end of the narrow room, providing little natural light. The gap between the door and the floor is also wide enough for a mouse (or even a rat) to enter. Now I NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THAT, but it provided a source of minor worry. The next night I shareed a double room with my cousin overlooking rue Castex, and I greatly preferred that room.
The staff were unfailingly polite and helpful, quite fluent in English (although they endured my French) and the breakfast was a filling baguette/croissant basket and a delicious mini-Bodum of coffee.
A hearty recommendation!!!!
Having stayed at the Castex for 3 and 4 weeks at a time I find it consistantly truly exceptional and, to me, the best value for money in Paris. Great location, friendly and helpful management, impeccably clean, the cost is right. Cannot praise this hotel enough.
A clean little hotel with very helpful staff. Our bathroom was modern and immaculate and we really wanted for nothing. Our room was located in the front on the second floor and had a lovely view of rue Castex. The Bastille area is full of activity and youthful energy. We went in March 2001 and paid about $48 a night and it is our consenses that we will stay there again.
I had the great pleasure of staying at the Castex Hotel for several nights last November. This was my fifth extended vacation to Europe, but my first visit to Paris, and the Castex is now my hands-down favourite European hotel for its friendly hosts, spotless rooms, great location and superb value. I look forward to my next stay this September!
I have now stayed at the Castex 3 times in as many years. I would have to agree with all of the very positive remarks on the website about the rooms, the friendliness of the staff and the delicious breakfasts. I have tried to find baguettes as delicious in other parts of the world, but so far have not succeeded. I look forward to staying there again soon and introducing my family to Paris from this small, very conveniently placed and economical hotel. Thanks to all at the Castex for making my stays in Paris so comfortable.
I stayed at this hotel in the spring of 2002 for three nights.
The Hotel is very convenient for walking to sights ie Notre Dame Louvre etc.
I have read that this was a family run hotel but it did not appear to be the case by this time, however all of the staff were courteous and efficient.
As in many small hotels there are no elevators so try to book on a lower floor if you have problems with stairs, it can be quite tiring to lug suitcases to the fifth floor.
If I stayed again and I would not hesitate to do so, I would request a double at the back, for quietness and a higher floor so that not too many people are climbing outside my door.
The single room I stayd in was all that one needs but very small but I had a rooftop view of Henry IV and a typical paris street.
Well my stay was fantastic
We stayed at the Castex in early March and found it to be clean and comfortable. We had a room overlooking the street which was charming. Nice, friendly staff and just try to keep the maid from cleaning your room. Very convenient to three metro stations and in the middle of the lively Bastille area. Great bargain.
The Castex hotel has been completely refurbished at the beginning of the year 2003 and kept a XVIIe century style, evoking the Golden Age of the Marais. They hope obtain soon the third star.
This is a wonderful hotel, and a great bargain in the Marais. In fact, it's such a nicely turned-out place, with such a friendly staff, that I thought twice about this posting: I don't want it to be more difficult to get a booking!
We spent four days in October 2004 at this hotel. A wonderful experience. And they have installed elevators! Staff very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone.
