Hitch-Hiking / Car-Pools
The company that runs the north and east autoroutes, has a number to
call in order to get a ride to Paris, with drivers willing to take
passengers to Paris. The car-pool service is called Covoiturage and the
numbers to call are 16 - 44 63 62 38 or 16- 44 63 62 37, between 5:00
and 21:00. When you call these numbers, a hostess will try to match your
travel plans with that of a driver; if there is a match, you will be
given the driver's phone number to make contact.
National Museums in Paris
The following National museums are closed: L'Orangerie Museum, the Rodin
Museum, the Picasso museum, and for repairs, the Ennary Museum. National
museums in Paris are generally open, some with modified times. You
should note that there is an active strike alert for all these museums.
The Museum at the Chateau de Compiegne is closed as is the Museum of
Franco-American Co-operation at the Chateau of Bierancourt. Other
museums outside Paris supposed to be open are the Museum at the
Fontainbleau Chateau, the Granges de Port-Royal Museum, the Museum at
the Chateau Malmaison, the Renaissance Museum at Ecouen Chateau, the
National Antiques Museum at St Germain-en-Laye, and the permanent
collections of the Ceramic Museum at Sevres. The press release says the
Chateau at Versailles is open, but I have read elsewhere that it is
being picketed, so check with the Tourist Office before trying to go all
the way out there.
Paris Museums and Monuments
The following were not included with yesterday's information :
For Thursday, 7 December, the Arc de Triomphe and the Pantheon close
their ticket offices at 15:30; Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie
close their ticket sales at 15:00. In all cases, these put you on the
street 30 minutes after the end of ticket sales. Closed today are the
Notre Dames towers and the Archelogical Crypt of the same establishment.
