Information for travelers to Paris - 9 & 10 Dec
Compiled by Richard Erickson from information furnished by the Paris Tourist Office For full information, please also read previous "Information for travelers" updates.
The Paris Tourist Office, 127, avenue des Champs-Elysees, 75008 Paris.
Tel.: 49 52 53 54, has permanent up-to-date information about the status of
the museums and monuments of Paris. Contact the office for precise
information regarding open times, as some of these have been modified -
usually the closing times.
National museums in Paris are open, some with modified times. According to
the tourist office, the Guimet Museum, the Picasso museum, and the Asian,
African, and Oceanie Arts Museum are all now open. Added to the list of
open museums are the Louvre and the Orsay Museum, the City of Science and
Industry at la Villette, the Rodin Museum, the National Galeries at the
Grand Palais (the Cezanne show), the Natural History Museum, the Arab World
Institute, the Money Museum, and the Palais de la Decouverte. An earlier
press release said the Chateau at Versailles is open, and I will assume it
is - but telephone in advance all the same. There is no new information
concerning the L'Orangerie Museum or the Museum at the Chateau de
Compiegne, so I assume they are closed.
Paris' own museums are all open, although with modified hours, usually of
closing.. This includes the catacombs, 1 place Denfert Rochereau; and the
sewers, which are as usual, in front of number 93, Quai d'Orsay, in the 7th
arrondissement.
The following private museums and sites are supposed to be open, although
closing times may be modified: Tour Eiffel, Tour Montparnasse, the Maillot
Museum, the Espace Dali, the Museum de Montmartre and the Museum de la
Poupee.
The following monuments are open, with closing times: the Arc de Triomphe,
15:30; the Pantheon, 15:15; Sainte Chapelle, 15:30; the Conciergerie,15:00;
the Notre Dame Archeological Crypt,15:30 to 16:30; but the towers of Notre
Dame remain closed.
