The 16th Arrondissement and Art Nouveau -
Thirza Vallois -
(This piece is excerpted from Thirza Vallois' book Around and About Paris.)
Between Auteuil and Passy further north was an unbuilt stretch
of land which was developed only after the area was annexed to Paris.
Around the turn of the twentieth century it provided space for
Hector Guimard and others in his wake to explore a new style of
architecture known as Art Nouveau.
La Defense; Paris `Business' Slum -
Richard Erickson -
You
may be under the impression that modern, stylish, high-tech France
is run from 19th century townhouses - called 'hôtels' locally
- in downtown Paris, but this is not the case.
Miracles Never Cease: The Val de Grâce -
Paul Jensi -
This church rising up from a cloistered neighborhood near the center of Paris
resembles a fairy tale castle and with reason: the chapel was built as a
thank you present in a story that came straight from a fable.
Letter From Paris -
Harriet Welty-Rochefort -
Every time I go grocery shopping in Paris, I dream of American grocery
stores with their wide aisles where no one is pushing and shoving and
running you down in a space made for Lilliputians. Some days I think that if
one more person jostles me or nudges me with a cart, I'll go stark raving
mad. I can just see the headlines: AMERICAN GOES ON RAMPAGE IN FRENCH
SUPERMARKET.
devant chaque monument ?
