The letter arrived in my post box yesterday - Monday the 26th of June 1995.
The stamps on envelope the were nice ones.
When I opened it, it was something else; something I hadn't expected.
la roue est à nu - the program
for the inauguration of rue Marcel-Duchamp was enclosed.
At the bottom was written:
Poser la question en interactivité:
quelq'un connaît-il une autre rue appellée
`Marcel Duchamp' au monde?
Ask the question interactively:
does anyone know another street
in the world called `Marcel Duchamp'?
There were also these two postcards
Apparently it had just happened two weeks earlier on the 10th of June, in the 13th arrondissement.
The street fair had been organized by ASSPRORUMARDU
(Association pour la promotion de la rue Marcel-Duchamp)
and included a program
for the day starting at 16h in the afternoon.
Where in the 13th? Its not possible to look it up on a map because rue Marcel-Duchamp
doesn't exist on any maps yet. Which brings us back to the question: is there a street
named after Marcel Duchamp anywhere else in the world?
So where is rue Marcel Duchamp in the 13th?
There must be many people who know - probably several hundred at least, but
maybe less than a thousand. Can someone tell us?
Now with this web page, rue Marcel Duchamp will become known to many more people
and throughout the world. Help the residents celebrate their
new street and send a letter or fax to ASSPRORUMARDU.
Finally, do you all know who Marcel Duchamp was? Some hints are contained
in the petition sent to
the Commission de dénomination des voies et espaces verts de la Ville de Paris
on the 7th of January 1994; but maybe your already know all of this?
