Paris Kiosque - February 2003 - Volume 10, Number 2 Copyright (c) 2002 Norman Barth - Used with permission.
6th Arrondissement, on the corner of rue Guynemer and rue de Vaugirard,
stands this magnificant façade. Its address is 21, rue de Vaugirard.
Rue Vaugirard has the distinction of being the longest street in Paris,
over 4 kilometers long, and is an ancient Roman way connecting Lutéce
(Paris) with Dreux. The current structure here was probably built in the
early 20th century. It was the home to the engraver Henriquet-Dupont from 1797 until 1892.
The other street, rue Guynemer, formerly part of the Luxembourg Gardens, still
forms the eastern boundary of these gardens. It became an extension of
rue Bonepart from 1879 to 1918. It was then named after the aviator
George Guynemer who died on the battlefield during WWI.
