Paris Kiosque - June 2003 - Volume 10, Number 6 Copyright (c) 2003 Norman Barth - Used with permission.
Up until 1832, the Seine was crossed here via a tugboat affair.
On the 24th of January 1832, Louis-Philippe inaugurated a
suspension bridge here. It was also a toll bridge until 1861.
During the years 1863 until 1864, the bridge - which had
heavy traffic - was replaced finally with the stone bridge
seen today. This bridge was enlarged in 1903, and in 1909
the viaduct was built for line number 6 of the Métro.
The Pont de Bercy looking from the west toward the 12th arrondissement. Note Métro line number 6
traversing the viaduct built in 1909.
The viaduct seen from the bridge itself, on the Quai de la Gare.
The Quai de la Gare métro stop on line number 6, just before the Pont de Bercy.
