Heloise and Abelard; Lovers of Parisian Legend -
Josef M. Schomburg -
The story of Heloise and Abelard is one intimate and intertwined with one of Paris'
oldest still-existing regions: its Cloître Notre-Dame. I normally tend to
avoid the more anecdotic or dramatized stories I come across in my research
about the city's past, but I made an exception for this one because it was an
excellent mirror of what was Parisian life in the mediaeval ages. The catholic
religion had not yet taken its final form then, nor had public education.
The Cloître Notre-Dame, to the north of the Notre-Dame cathedral, would be a stage for the sculpting of both.
Letter From Paris -
Harriet Welty-Rochefort -
Adventures in Paris? Every DAY is an adventure in Paris, some days more than others, of course.
The three stories below - "Pooch Arrest", "An American Takes on a Communist", and
"Hitting the Roof" - illustrate, if need be, that there's never a dull moment in the City of Light.
La Crême de La Crême; Le Cordon Bleu; Part II - Kim & Carl Davaz -
(Continued from last month, April 2005 ...)
A student goes up to the work area to inspect a rack of just-baked chocolate macaroons.
He brings one back to his seat and after examining it closely, passes it on to those near him.
It is soft but not gooey and pliable. The macaroons may be put together with a filling or
they will stick to themselves if still hot. Just be sure to put the nicest one on top. "But
these are all nice, so there is no problem," says Chef Besnard, smiling.
They ARE all nice. He puts a few together and his assistant, student So Shukying from Hong Kong, finishes.
Image of The Month - Doyeun Kim -
After every one of my shopping or photography strolls around Paris, or days/nights out
with my friends, I take the metro home. I am not one of its daily regulars,
I do not possess a shiny Carte Imaginaire, but you can find my wallet always
loaded with a dozen of those purple metro tickets, and you can find me quite at
ease in the metro where some Parisians tend to stare at one another in silence:
something I had found strange when I was a newbie to Paris.
