Jewish Paris -
Toni L. Kamins -
The city we know as Paris has been inhabited for over
2,000 years. Rome conquered the area in the fourth century
and named it Lutetia Parisiorum, after the Parisi, the
Gallic tribe who lived surrounded by swampland on the Ile
de la Cite. And Jews have lived here ever since, and
perhaps even before.
The `Lost' Bièvre -
Richard Erickson -
The Bièvre as a river on Paris' left bank has a long
history, but there isn't anything to see of it because it
was buried in stages from 1828 until 1910.
But the Butte-aux-Cailles certainly remains for all to see.
