4th Arrondissement, situated at 2, rue Jarente, this impasse is
16m long, and 5.8m wide and dates to 1783. This impasse used to be an open street,
part of the system of streets supplying nearby Marché Sainte-Catherine,
which is now a quiet square off of rue Saint Antoine. What is left of the street
and its previous function is now this fountain, and its name: it used to be
associated with the fish vendors of the market, and for this reason the detail
of the fountain façade includes fish.
Impasse de la Poissonnerie and its fountain.
The fountain of the Impasse de la Poissonnerie in its entirety.
Detail of the fountain hints are its past relationship with the fish vendors
of the nearby Marché Sainte-Catherine.
