Police Release ID-Kit Photos of RER Bomb 'Witnesses'
Three Eye-witnesses Aided Production of Published Photos

Paris, Monday, 31. July 1995 : The front pages of practically all
newspapers in the capitol this morning featured the simulated photos of
three men sought by French police, and characterised as 'witnesses,'
rather than authors, of the bombing of the RER train at the Saint-Michel
station, last Tuesday, 25. July.
The Identity-Kit photos were assembled with the aid of three separate
eye-witnesses; a Paris transport employee, an auxiliary policeman and
the third, a passenger. All three had seen suspicious behavior, two on the
bombed RER line, and one on another RER line had overheard a snatch of
conversation.
The photos were distributed to various police agencies last Friday, 28.
July. Although the minister of the interior announced a reward of one
million francs last Wednesday evening, it was only decided on Sunday
afternoon to release the photos for general distribution to the media.
Security forces believe the deadly blast was instigated by elements
involved in the present Algerian conflict, but exactly which side might
be responsible, is unknown.
This morning, 22 passengers remained in hospital out of a total of
84 injured, and seven killed.
Explosives experts hare reported unlikely
nature of the substance that caused detonation, as the bomb itself consumed its
origins, except for some minute scraps of the casing, believed to be a
camping gaz container.
The criminal police have a hotline number, (1) 45 44 31 82, for
answering calls from anybody who may know anything about the "important
witnesses" they are seeking.
