What/Where/When/Access

Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe: Sunday, October 1st.

Richard Erickson's Paris Journal - Freelance Correspondent to the Paris Pages
All images copyright (c) September 1995 Richard Erickson - used with permission
What: Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe
When: Sunday, 1. October, the track will open early, by 10 or 11 am.
Where: L'Hippodrome de Longchamp is located at the south end and the western side of the Bois de Boulogne.

Entry Fee:

Adults : Tribune : 50 francs
Children under 18 : free
Everybody on "La Pelouse" : free - 12 francs for vehicle
To cross from "La Pelouse" to the tribune there is a tunnel near the
north end of "La Pelouse." The 50 francs applies for entry to the
tribune area.

Parking: There is plenty of parking available in the interior -"La Pelouse" - of the track, for 12 francs a car. It is possible to picnic here. Entry is at intersection of the Route de Sevres a Neuilly and the Route de l'Hippodrome; follow the Route des Tribunes clockwise until you come to it, if you are arriving from the Seine - west - side.

Access: Bus : RATP bus no. 244 runs from Porte Maillot through the Bois de Boulogne direct to the track. Return is slower with same bus.
Bus : from Porte d'Auteuil Metro, which is closest Metro station to track, take bus no 123 to stop at Porte de Boulogne, walk up boul. Anatole France to Porte de l'Hippodrome and turn north.
Bus : PC - 'Petite Ceinture' - get off at Porte de Passy and walk west along the Route de l'Hippodrome.

Remarks:
Refreshment stands are in the tribune, behind the tribune, and located on "La Pelouse."

Betting windows are located both on the tribune side and on "La Pelouse" side.

For children, there is a pony village located on "La Pelouse" and a play area. For smaller children, from 2 to 10, there is a free - but professional - babysitting service located near the Porte de Suresne on the side of the 'Moulin' - at the north end of "La Pelouse."

There will be a full day of racing on Sunday. The big race should be about 15:45 to 16:00. Racegoers arrive over a longer period of time; after the 'Arc' there is a general exodus and traffic can be difficult. The walk from the track back to the Porte de Passy in the late afternoon, will be cool and long. The walk to Porte d'Auteuil is long too. Dress warmly. A compass might be handy.
